Preparing for Motherhood With Intention, Clarity, and Self-Trust

As a senior executive for an AI tech start-up preparing for her first child, Karen entered coaching during her second trimester wanting space to think more deeply about the transition into motherhood beyond logistics and preparation. While she felt equipped for pregnancy and birth, she realized she had not fully explored the identity, emotional, and relational shifts that motherhood would bring. Together, we created a structured space for reflection, self-awareness, and intentional decision-making as she prepared for this next chapter.

The Challenge

Before coaching, Karen felt highly prepared for the practical side of becoming a mother, but less prepared for the deeper personal transition that motherhood would bring. She wanted support navigating:

  • The identity shift into motherhood

  • Fears around losing herself in the process

  • Pressure tied to productivity, achievement, and control

  • Redefining purpose and contribution beyond career success

  • Creating intentional alignment within her partnership and support system

  • Balancing ambition, leadership, and motherhood in a sustainable way

What We Worked On

Together, we focused on helping Karen prepare for motherhood with greater intentionality and emotional clarity through:

  • The Matrescence Wheel

  • Values clarification and alignment work

  • Exploring life purpose and identity evolution

  • Leader Within & Allies coaching tools

  • Somatic exercises and guided visualizations

  • Gottman Institute frameworks for partnership and parenting conversations

  • Goal-setting and prioritization exercises

What Shifted

One of Karen’s biggest breakthroughs was realizing that motherhood did not need to compete with her identity, ambition, or leadership, but could instead expand them.

Through coaching, Karen began reframing contribution and fulfillment beyond achievement and productivity alone. She developed a more integrated view of ambition, presence, family, and leadership.

As a result, she:

  • Feels more grounded and emotionally prepared for motherhood

  • Approaches the transition with greater self-awareness and intentionality

  • Notices and interrupts patterns of self-pressure and over-control earlier

  • Thinks more cyclically and sustainably about growth and progress

  • Feels more connected to her values, relationships, and evolving identity

  • No longer sees motherhood and ambition as opposing forces

In her words, “I came out of it feeling excited, proud, and dare I say ‘ready enough’ about this next chapter, rather than pressured or overwhelmed.”

Karen’s Feedback

“I would highly recommend Tingi and her (Re)Define Motherhood program to any woman navigating the transition into motherhood.

Tingi's coaching style nails balance between structure and fluidity. There’s a clear framework, but the sessions are guided by what’s real and present for you. Tingi holds that space exceptionally well -- she’s warm, kind, and an incredibly attentive listener.

The depth of the program also surprised me. You’re not skimming the surface -- you’re working through questions around values, purpose, and identity in a way that feels safe, honest, and thoughtful.

I came out of it feeling excited, proud, and dare I say -- 'ready enough' -- about this next chapter, rather than pressured or overwhelmed. I will always be grateful to Tingi for this.”
