How Nicole Prepared for the Identity Shift Into Motherhood

Nicole, a senior leader in the fintech industry, came to coaching wanting to prepare intentionally for motherhood, not just survive it. Together, we explored identity, relationships, support systems, and the emotional realities of matrescence before postpartum began.

The Challenge

Before coaching, Nicole saw many highly capable women around her struggle through motherhood and realized that if she prepared for every other major life transition, why wouldn’t she prepare for this one too?

She wanted support navigating:

  • Identity shifts

  • Relationship dynamics

  • Postpartum expectations

  • Mental wellbeing

  • Building a realistic support system

What We Worked On

Together, we focused on both the emotional and practical realities of matrescence through:

  • The Matrescence Wheel

  • Values and identity work

  • Recognizing saboteurs and behavioral patterns

  • Building a postpartum support village

  • Relationship and parenting conversations using Gottman frameworks

  • Clarifying roles, expectations, and genuine personal needs

What Shifted

Through coaching, Nicole realized that preparation was not about controlling motherhood. It was about understanding herself more deeply before entering a major life transition.

As a result, she:

  • Built a stronger support system

  • Had proactive conversations with her husband

  • Recognized patterns that could create stress postpartum

  • Entered motherhood with more clarity and self-awareness

Results

  • Overall coaching rating: 10/10

  • Likelihood to recommend Tingi as a coach: 10/10

  • Created a postpartum support plan before birth

  • Strengthened communication and alignment with partner

Nicole’s Feedback

“Coaching with Tingi was all encompassing - it evaluated everything from inner work and my personality traits that could get in the way all the way through to my marriage and providing a strong foundation for strengthening our relationship and being on the same page…This isn’t a course to tell you what to do, this is an investment in your mental health.”
